We randomly sampled 97 hospitals with 400 beds or more from eight regional divisions nationwide, and from the 34 hospitals that gave their consent, we conducted an exploratory study of factors using anonymous self-administered questionnaire surveys of 323 nurse administrators. We extracted 44 items and 8 factors through from factor analysis. The work experiences that promoted the growth of nurse administrators included《mentorship from my boss》《dealing with challenges》《taking on the responsibility of nurturing staff 》《experiencing predicaments as a leader》《failing in my role as new nurse manager》《learning from continuing education》《sincere relationships with patients》, and《 learning from my bossʼs mistakes》. The Cronbachʼs α coeffi cient of each factor was between .957 and .683, confirming the surveyʼs reliability.
